Starting with the question what might be meaningfully written on a nanoimprinted biomedical silk film sensor implanted in the body, Jen Bervin (MA Creative Writing/ Poetry, University of Denver, 2001; BFA Studio Art, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 1996) discusses how she approached her research process for The Silk Poems, a complex project that took her to silk bioengineering and nanofabrication labs, medical libraries, textile centers, sericulture farms, archives and museums all over the world. The piece premieres in the exhibition Explode Everyday: A Philosophical Inquiry into the Phenomena of Wonder at MASS MoCA in May 2016. She will also discuss new work in development in China on the 4th century B.C. poet Su Hui. This lecture is free and open to the public.
